I love this sculpture. Especially because she’s sitting on one of the staircases in the library, engrossed in her book and totally oblivious to the bustle of passers-by.

The Pasha’s Sorrow or Dead Tiger, 1885, by Jean-Leon Gerome, French, 1824-1904. This official of Turkey has lost a favorite tiger and has scattered rose petals around him while he sits in sad contemplation.
Gerome’s oil on canvas is in a private collection. He was considered an Academic painter of historical and mythological scenes as well as portraits.
